Unilateral hearing loss (UHL), often referred to as Single Sided Deafness (SSD) where one ear has an unaidable hearing loss and the other ear has normal or aidable hearing, continues to be challenging.
Starkey Evolv AI product family offers a wireless contralateral routing of signal (CROS) and bilateral CROS (BiCROS) solutions that are beneficial for many listening situations. Loaded with their most innovative technology and clearest sound, these hearing aids seamlessly adapt to the user’s lifestyle. The Evolv AI CROS/BiCROS System enhances audibility and speech understanding, ensuring the user to hear and experience the world around them.
A CROS system consists of a single microphone and single receiver contained in two individual hearing aids. The ear with little-to-no functional hearing is fit with the microphone-equipped hearing aid (the transmitter or CROS system), and the ear with normal hearing is fitted with the receiver-equipped hearing aid (a regular hearing aid). Sound arriving at the ear with no functional hearing transmits through a wireless connection to the receiver-equipped hearing aid to help patients hear sounds from their non-hearing side to their normal-hearing side. This strategy improves audibility of sound on the side with unaidable hearing but does not restore the ability to localize to the source of a sound.
CROS and BiCROS
The Starkey CROS System includes products specifically designed for patients who need sound routed to a better hearing ear. The CROS solution transmits sound wirelessly from a microphone placed on a patient’s unaidable ear to a receiver fitted on a patient’s better hearing ear. Devices can also be configured as a BiCROS solution for patients who need amplification in their better hearing ear.
The CROS System cannot be used alone or by itself. It is meant to be used with a compatible hearing aid on the other side.

What is CROS and how does it work?

What is BiCROS and how does it work?

The BiCROS System transmits sound from a microphone, placed in your ear with little to no hearing, to a hearing aid that is worn in your better-hearing ear. This sound can be personalized to your hearing loss, allowing you to hear sounds from both sides.
